Prof. Gary Walsh (University of Limerick, Ireland)
Dr. Mahmut Tokaç was born in Ünye in 1963. He graduated from Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1985 and freceived his Ph.D. on Deontology and Medical History in 2000 from İstanbul University Health Sciences Institute. Dr. Tokaç has worked as practitioner medicine in several medical institutions in different cities of Turkey. Between 1997 and 2003, he has worked as coordinator of ER call center and anbulance services for the city of İstanbul. Dr. Mahmut Tokaç was appointed as Vice Director of GDDP (General Directorate of Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacy) at the Turkish Ministry of Health and he has been serving as the Director of GDDP since 2005. Dr. Tokaç is married.
Dr. Gary Walsh was awarded his Ph.D. degree from the National University of Ireland at Galway in 1989. He is currently Associate Professor of Biotechnology at the University of Limerick, Ireland. Prior to joining the University of Limerick he worked within industry for several years and was a visiting Fulbright professor at the University of Georgia, in the United States. His research interests span various aspects of pharmaceutical and enzyme biotechnology, and he has or continues to supervise 20 post graduate and post doctoral students. His 191 publications include 7 authored books, 2 edited books, 11 book chapters and 55 journal articles. Three of his books are international students textbooks in the area of pharmaceutical biotechnology (Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, concepts and applications; Biopharmaceuticals: biochemistry and biotechnology and Proteins, biochemistry and biotechnology, all published by John Wiley & Sons, UK). He has presented guest/keynote papers at 22 international conferences. He has also served as editor, biotechnology section, of the European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics and as a member of the editorial boards of Biopharm. International, New Drugs and the Encyclopaedia of Industrial Biotechnology. He has also acted as scientific secretary and as a member of the board of governors of the European Association of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. Gary Walsh teaches various aspects of pharmaceutical biotechnology at both undergraduate and taught post graduate level and served as acting Dean, Teaching & Learning, at the university of Limerick in 2004. He is also a former recipient of both his University’s excellence in teaching award and special achievement in research award.
