Dr. Kaya Köklü is a German qualified lawyer in the Düsseldorf office of the international law firm Simmons & Simmons. Since 2001, he specialises in the field of intellectual property law with a special focus on patent law, an area in which he advises national and international corporations. His practice also covers unfair competition law matters with a focus on advertisements for pharmaceutical and medical devices.
In this context Kaya advises national and international corporations, in particular well established pharmaceutical companies as well as start-up biotech companies in patent infringement proceedings before German infringement courts. Furthermore, he advises national and international companies on technology transfer and licensing issues.

Kaya received his PhD from the Heinrich-Heine-University of Düsseldorf for his thesis on Turkish, German and European patent law, a work for that he was awarded with a two-year scholarship by the Max-Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Tax Law in Munich. Before joining Simmons & Simmons Düsseldorf in 2006, Kaya worked for law firms in Istanbul and Tokyo.

Kaya is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR e.V.), the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP) and the German Turkish Lawyers' Association.
