Born in Zurich, where he studied pharmaceutical sciences at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich later at the University of Geneva, where he obtained a PhD in 1976. Prolonged stay at the Universities of Purdue and Stanford in the United States
1979 Research Associate at the University of Geneva .
1991 Professor in the some department.
Today Heads of a group of more than twenty five researchers.
Pioneers in the field of drug carriers and drug targeting
Acitif in the field of novel degradable biopolymers, long acting implants .
More recently he established working groups on protein delivery and gene therapy and on improvement of ocular therapy, especially intravitreal and subretinal medication.

1991-2001 Scientific Secretary of the "Controlled Release Society".
1998, Vice President of the International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology (APV) 1995 - today Editor-in-Chief European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics.
