PROF. UDAY KOMPELLA

Dr. Uday B. Kompella is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Colorado Denver. Prior to joining University of Colroado, Dr. Kompella served as a faculty member at University of Nebraska Medical Center and at Auburn University. Dr. Kompella’s research interests include development of drug and gene delivery systems for treating neovascular disorders such as diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, corneal angiogenesis, and lung cancer. Additional research interests include membrane transport, electrophysiology, and drug/prodrug design. Based on his research, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, pharmaceutical industries, and scientific foundations, Dr. Kompella has authored or co-authored 90 scientific papers and book chapters and co-edited two books: 1) Supercritical Fluid Technology for Drug Product Development (2004) and 2) Nanoparticle Technology for Drug Delivery (2006). He is the current editor for two journals, “Clinical Research and Regulatory Affairs” and “Pharmaceutical Research”. Also, he is an editorial board member for five other journals, “Journal of Ocular Pharmacology & Therapeutics”, “Journal of Ocular Biology, Diseases, and Informatics”, “Drug Delivery Technology”, “Expert Opinion on Drug Delivery”, and “International Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Nanotechnology”. Dr. Kompella has held several leadership positions within the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), a 12,000+ member scientific association. Dr. Kompella served as Chairman of the Regulatory Sciences Section of AAPS and co-founder and Chairman of the Ocular Drug Delivery & Disposition Focus Group. He served on the Publications Board of AAPS and he is currently serving on the Books Advisory Committee and Financial Advisory Committee of AAPS.

Dr. Kompella served on about 30 University related committees including Strategic Planning Committees. At University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Kompella served as the Chairman of the graduate program in pharmaceutical sciences. Dr. Kompella received awards for teaching excellence from Auburn University (1997-98) as well as University of Nebraska Medical Center (2003). He was the 1997 recipient of the AAPS new investigator award in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technologies. In 2005, in recognition of his distinguished contributions and leadership in the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences, Dr. Kompella was honored with the “AAPS Fellow” status. In 2006, his research quality and productivity was recognized with a “Distinguished Scientist” award at University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Kompella received his B.Pharm (Hons) from BITS, Pilani, M.Pharm (Pharm. Engg.) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and PhD (Pharmaceutical Sciences) from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
