WELCOME TO ANTALYA

Dear Colleague,

Welcome to the 14th International Pharmaceutical Technology Symposium (IPTS 2008), to be held on 8-10 September, 2008 under the joint sponsorship of HETEK, Hacettepe University and TÜBİTAK Turkish Council of Scientific and Technical Research.

IPTS 2008 programme will address the “Overcoming Biological Barriers in Innovative Delivery Systems”. More than 20 acknowledged speakers have already confirmed their participation in this congress with lectures on their specializations. Along with the scientific part of the programme, there will also be an exhibition of pharmaceutical companies and laboratory equipments from Turkish and international companies.

This year, we are planning to hold two pre-symposium workshops on “Quality by design” and “Advances in dissolution” on September 6 and 7 respectively. The first workshop will be chaired by Dr. Mansoor Khan from FDA together with Dr. Tom Sam from FIP and Organon. Second workshop will be chaired by Dr. Vinod Shah and myself. This year the IPTS programme will also cover a wider range of interests and fields by providing two alternative sessions each day of the symposium. Main symposium on overcoming of biological barriers in innovative drug delivery systems will be held along with different parallel sessions. On September 8, industrial parallel session on “Biotech and biosimilar products” will be organized by Dr. Mahmut Tokaç, Director of GDPP and Prof. Gary Walsh from University of Limerick, Ireland. On the second day of the symposium, a parallel session on “Pharmacoeconomy” will be held with Dr. Doğan Fidan from Sanofi Aventis and Prof. Bülent Gümüşel from Hacettepe University as chair. The third industrial session will be “Intellectual property rights in the pharmaceutical industry” will be chaired by Prof. Levent Öner from Hacettepe University together with a legal authority fron the Turkish Government to be further announced.

We hope that this symposium of wide range of covered fields and lecturers will bring together the scientists representing various sectors of academia and industry from all over the world as well as health authorities, giving the opportunity to experience the excited scientific environment, fruitful discussions to solve current problems or challenges and networking.

As the IPTS Organizing Committee, we look forward to welcoming you in Antalya-Turkey at its best time of the season to enjoy the sun as well as high level of science.
Sincerely,
